Dragon Age: Origins
Hi, my name is David P from gamertag360.ca, and I am here to review Dragon Age: Origins.
Controls: If you played any Bioware game you are pretty much set for the control scheme. The game uses the same turn base element that KOTOR uses. This becomes a very fun experience as you level and gain more skills for your character. Speaking a which, you can control up to a total of 4 characters at a time, with the ability to switch between easily throughout combat.
Dragon Age scores 9/10
Sound: Sound in every RPG is crucial. First off, the voice acting in this game is amazing! Hands down amazing. You'll recognize some of the voices in the game, especially Tim Curry. And the musical score for the game just brings deeper and deeper into the game. The sound overall was just fantastic.
Dragon Age scores 10/10
Video: The graphics in Dragon Age were fairly well done, but weren't that outstanding. But the little added touches to the visual appearance of the game were a nice touch. For instance, when in battle, say as a rogue, and you are stabbing your way through enemies you will become drenched in blood, which adds that nice sinister touch of realism to the game. But overall, as said before, they were not that outstanding compared to other RPG's on the Xbox 360 console.
Dragon Age 8/10
Re-play ability: Yes! Oh my god, yes! There are so many side missions throughout this game that you may have missed through your first few playthroughs. Plus, at the start of the game there is a separate storyline, the origins storyline, for your character, based on their race, social standings, and profession. Plus, your actions throughout the game deeply affect the storyline, so there is the severe want to see how things would have played if you didn't ruthlessly stab that guy. This game will keep you coming back for more, plus there is already DLC!
Dragon Age scores 10/10
Achievements: The achievements in the games work great with the game, and the majority of them are fairly challenging. For example, there is an achievement to gain all possible part members, to unlock all endings for every possible play through, to kill 1000 darkspawn, and to experience every possible romance story. If you want to be a completionist with this game, have fun! It's going to be a long and amazing road
Dragon Age scores 9/10
Delivery: In the game, the loading can become a huge nuisance. The loading screens can range from 5 to 15 seconds. As well there are several glitch issues. Where your character will be locked in an obscure posture for quite sometime, where voices will become completely off sink or sometimes don't come through at all, plus there are some quest glitches for experience. On second thought, that last one is not so bad :D.
Dragon Age scores 6/10
Single-player: The single play campaign was great and kept you riveted for a good 50 hours. Yes, 50 hours. The game is long, and is different for each character class. And the story changes based on the choices you make.
Dragon Age scores 9/10
Characters: Characters are crucial for every RPG, and the characters are amazing in this game. You either become instantly attached to them or hate them right away. And I mean attached to the point of screaming at the television because your favourite companion died. The characters make this game become a life-like fantasy world that you just do not want to come out of
Dragon Age scores 10/10
Story: The story in this game is riveting. You start off as whatever you choose during character creation and go through the unique origins storyline. From there, about 2 hours later, you meet Duncan, a Grey Warden who wishes you to join his ranks to fight the darkspawn. After which you travel to Ostagar, the fortress where humanity is making an effort to defeat the blight (the army of darkspawn led by an arch demon). After you join the ranks of the Grey Wardens, betrayal strikes! The army fighting the darkspawn is destroyed due to an inventory retreat by one of the army's generals. You and your companion survive, and as the last of the Grey Wardens must unite the world's civilizations (humans, elves, dwarves, and mages) against the darkspawn. Throughout this journey you will experience laughter, heartache, and all in between. You will meet amazing characters and will travel along with most of them, in your quest to destroy the darkspawn.
Dragon Age scores 10/10
Game play: Like most games you have the option at the start to select your difficulties. This game, even on normal, can be very difficult. The AI is very well developed and can sometimes easily take down your party if you do not strategize properly throughout combat. The ease of switching between characters is a very handy tool, as is the character menu where you can access your inventory, advanced options, spells and talents, continuous spells and talents, a quick heal option, poisons and traps, potions, and a feature to change your party members on the fly. Also, apart from the three standard classes of rogue, warrior, and mage, there are prestige classes for each. With a total of 5 prestige classes for each starting class. Bust out the calculator please... That is over 700 possible character class choices!!! The only downside to the gameplay are the few glitches that appear every now and then.
Dragon Age scores 9.25/10
That will give a grand total of 90.25/100
Hits: Sound and music were phenomenal Controls were familiar to Bioware fans It presented itself well graphically The story was amazing!!! No dumb AI and strategy was needed to succeed in combat
Misses: Glitches are clearly apparent and sometimes hinder the game
Buy, Rent, or Pass: Buy - The real main reason why it’s a buy is because you are a great story. It is a complete must have for any RPG and Bioware fan. As well, with the limited edition version of the game you get a few add-ons, a character, a nice cloth map of the world, and some kick ass armour for both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2
Green light of life !This game got a Green Ring. This marks that this game is a fun and we recommend it.
